A literary masterpiece
The book was written in 1949, by George Orwell (famous for other works such as Animal Farm). This was his last book, he died 7 weeks after it's publication.
The book was an instant classic, and to this day is constantly referred back to by academics as a warning to the dangers of corrupt government, oppression and totalitarianism.
Orwell wrote this book as a response to the impacts Stalin and Hitler had on Russia and Germany in the 1930's and 40's.
If you know anyone that believes in the need for a bigger and more influential government, suggest this book to them. A increasingly controlling government leads to greater taxation, surveillance, removal/silencing of opposing regimes and thought; and eventually military oppression of the people.
